About Us
WHAT WE’RE ABOUT
VoraciTee is a socially active apparel design venture that aims to raise awareness for a variety of social causes and NPOs. We’re passionate about each campaign and dedicated to revolutionizing the way people represent who they are and the causes they believe in.
HOW WE DO IT
VoraciTee designs and produces wearable art which visually depicts social causes and incorporates non-profit logo/name.
HOW WE STARTED
The t-shirt is a staple in almost every college student’s wardrobe. It’s also the primary physical characteristic that sets UNC-Chapel Hill students apart from their longtime rivals at Duke University. All over North Carolina, light blue and dark blue T-shirts symbolize the deep-running divide between the two schools. But to VoraciTee, a T-shirt is not just a statement of school pride, team loyalty or personal style, but a way to heighten awareness of social problems all over the world.
As a first-year student at UNC-CH, Amy Zhang founded VoraciTee in the spring of 2007. Two years later, she called her younger brother Alex, a student at Duke, to brag about the street sign surfing and Christmas tree burning that occurred after Carolina’s 2009 basketball national championship. A busy senior, she also requested that Alex fill her position as VoraciTee’s executive director. Alex eagerly accepted his sister’s plea and called her a year later to brag of the burning benches and screaming fans that offers VoraciTee a challenge. How does an organization persuade a college student to buy a T-shirt when a cheerleader tosses out free ones at football games and student representatives hand them out in the Pit or the Bryan Center plaza?
American Apparel is the answer, offering brightly colored, V-neck T-shirts at a discount to the student group. But even though shirt sales are important, it’s ultimately the promotion of awareness that we strive for. “VoraciTee means passion,” Alex says. “I know that’s the definition, but I can’t think of a better way to describe the organization.”
